VEKAM is thrilled to announce the book talk Alphabet and Press: Alphabet Reform and Press Regime in Türkiye 1928-1939 by Prof. M. Sinan Niyazioğlu within the scope of 57th Library week. The talk  will be held online with moderation of Mehtap Türkyılmaz on April 3, 2021  at 2.00 pm.

Alphabet and Press examines the concretization of the discourse of nation-building during the Early Republic period through a wide variety of printed products ranging from alphabet books to official propaganda publications, and it also studies the decade-long politics of the instilling of this discourse into the masses. The book discusses the development process of the alphabet reform, which defined the national printed culture in Türkiye and the development of the press regime, which shaped the national press culture, by comparing them on the basis of the cultural relations that Türkiye established in the 1920s and 1930s with the political regimes that were her neighbors and allies.

The talk will be in Turkish.
