Interpreting Ankara Through Memories

DeadlineFeb. 29, 2024
The history of cities is read not only from written and visual documents but also from literary texts. Memories are valuable for understanding, perceiving, and feeling the city. Although memoirs and autobiographies appear as personal texts, they contain many social and urban memory details. This means noticing the different layers of the city.

The texts selected for the workshop will be tried to determine how Ankara is depicted in terms of emotions, impressions, perceptions, urban life, and daily life, with what features Ankara is processed, what has been lost from what is described in the work, and what continues.

Chapters, paragraphs, and sentences related to Ankara will be considered in the texts and discussed in many ways in the classroom. Since it will be a workshop open to participants from different disciplines, a productive working environment is expected for each member to convey the richness of their field of knowledge to all members.

The participants must participate in the workshop by reading the texts in advance, marking the places they find essential, making notes, scanning the relevant sources, and preparing. Lectures will proceed in a general discussion. An active attitude in reading and discussions is also essential in creating the infrastructure of the original texts to be written by the participants at the end of the workshop.
