The work deals with the social, economic, and spatial transformations that the Kızılay Square has undergone as the administrative, social, economic, and political core of the capital Ankara, following the establishment of the Republic. The first section of the publication provides a theoretical framework to conceptualize the square as a public space and to analyze it in its various aspects. The second section traces the transformation of Kızılay and vicinity in four periods (1923-1950, 1950-1980, 1980-2000, and after 2000), referring to the social, economic, and political milestones that caused it.
