In this publication, Recep Cengizkan (also known as Cengiz Kan) who is a 1935 graduate of the Department of Painting of Gazi Institute of Education, compiles his “Graduation Thesis,” “Autobiography,” and “Works,” as well as pieces “Written About Him.” The author contributed to the Mektep Müzesi established by İsmail Hakkı Tonguç whom he considers his as a father, and later, from 1940 to 1960 he directed the İlk Öğretim Dergisi (Journal of Primary Education) again established by Tonguç. This is the first publication in Türkiye dealing with child labor and the author’s photographs that accompany the text illustrate life in Ankara from 1932 to 1935. The author also relates his own childhood experience as a street peddler in the Anatolian town of Niğde during the war years from 1918 to 1922. The work provides an authentic and first-hand account of salvation, foundation, and effort, and offers insights on the founding nature of Gazi Institute of Education.
