Ankara in Turkish Novel



The lecture by Dr. Esra Sazyek will examine 214 novels and the lecture will try to capture Ankara, a place of multi-dimensional and rapid change since October 29, 1923, in all its dimensions as reflected in the fictional world. The lecture will examine Ankara’s historically significant architectural edifices including those dating to the Roman period and many others;  will investigate Ankara’s natural assets, also published in international literature; will identify various spaces in Ankara before and after it became the capital; will discuss sculptures/statues, monuments, parks, squares and gardens; and will delve into Ankara’s demographic structure, characteristics, housing shortage, urban development.
