Ankara has undergone a complex and rapid transformation after October 9th, 1923 and through the analysis of 214 novels, this publication attempts to study all aspects of the city reflected onto the realm of fiction. The first of the five chapters, “Ankara in History” examines the historically significant architectural works of the city, which was home to many ancient civilizations starting with Rome. The second chapter, “the Nature of Ankara” deals with the natural entities of the city that found their way into international literature. The third chapter, “Ankara’s Locales” discusses various places before and after the city became the capital. The fourth chapter, “Urban Texture” studies the sculptures, the monuments, the parks, the plazas, and the gardens of the city. The fifth and final “the City and People” looks at the demographics, attributes, residential problems, zoning issues of the capital, and presents a comparison of Ankara and Istanbul, which also permeates the entirety of the work.
